Did you know we have a YouTube channel called Felts TV?  

On January 11, 2011 I posted my first video to YouTube. Many of my early clips consist of just personal videos of the kiddos etc., but recently I have been taking video production more seriously. Did you know that a couple of Parker County guys have a popular podcast with a huge following?

Cam Hale and Kyle Philson's podcast is called Expanded Perspectives and as stated on their web site, Expanded Perspectives represents individuals inclined to form one’s own opinions rather than depend upon academics or authorities; especially about ancient cultures, conspiracy theories, science, cryptozoology, social and religious issues. Their open minded views allow them to consider all possibilities regardless of how strange or unusual. They invite you to come with them as they explore the many stories, studies and topics through podcasts, interviews, books, blogs and news/magazine articles.

A friend of mine who also has a podcast (Pair of Spades) had mentioned these two guys and the unique but fascinating content they share.  I couldn't wait to check it out and was stoked to see they had nearly 150 different podcasts.  I soon realized, living in a small town that I actually knew of them but had no idea they even did this. I just wanted to share this with you all. Enjoy!

Did you know that Parker County is the peach capital of Texas?

Named by the State Legislature as the Peach Capital of Texas, Weatherford and Parker County growers produce the biggest, sweetest, juiciest peaches around. The Peach is celebrated each year at the Parker County Peach Festival, Weatherford’s largest event and one of the best-attended festivals in Texas.

More than 35,000 visitors come to Weatherford to enjoy homemade peach ice cream, peach cobbler, peach pie, peach juleps, peach smoothies, and just plain juicy peaches! Did you know that Felts Photography was established in 1998? After Jake graduated from TSTC/Waco with his associates degree in Audio Visual Production, he and his wife Cari started offering photography services in Weatherford, Texas. 

No, I wasn't always bald and fat!  haha

Did you know that it's illegal in some states to dance to the Star Spangled Banner?

According to Massachusetts State Law, anyone who plays, sings or renders the "Star Spangled Banner" "other than as a whole and separate composition or number, without embellishment or addition in the way of national or other melodies" is subjected to a fine of "not more than one hundred dollars." The law also extends to using the song as dance music, an exit march, or a medley. In other words: unless you want to fork over $100, you should probably stick to the script. Hilariously enough, in January 1944, Russian composer Igor Stravinsky found out he was liable to said fine after he conducted his own arrangement of the "Star Spangled Banner" with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. According to an article published by the New York Times shortly thereafter, then-Boston Police Commissioner Thomas F. Sullivan confirmed "there would be no action" regarding Stravinsky's criminal act. Well, unless you count the Cold War, anyway.

Though it’s an obscure law, in 1931, Michigan passed three criminal codes governing performances of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Proper performance is defined as follows:

How played—The national hymn or anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner”, shall not be played, sung or otherwise rendered in this state in any public place nor at any public entertainment, nor in any theatre, motion picture hall, restaurant or cafe, except as an entire and separate composition or number and without embellishments of national or other melodies; nor shall “The Star Spangled Banner” or any part thereof or selection from the same, be played as a part or selection of a medley of any kind; nor shall “The Star Spangled Banner” be played at or in any of the places mentioned herein for dancing or as an exit march.

So beware — no dancing to “The Star-Spangled Banner”!!

Did You Know #2

In 1839, a year after the first photo containing a human being was made, photography pioneerRobert Cornelius made the first ever portrait of a human being. 

On a sunny day in October, Robert  

Cornelius set up his camera in the back of his father’s gas lamp-importing business on Chestnut Street in Center City, Philadelphia. After removing the lens cap, he sprinted into the frame, where he sat for more than a minute before covering up the lens. The picture he produced that day was the first photographic self-portrait. It is also widely considered the first successful photographic portrait of a human being.  The words written on the back of the self-portrait, in Cornelius’ own hand, said it all: “The first light Picture ever taken. 1839.”

The photo is now a part of the Library of Congress’ Daguerreotype collection.

Did You Know - Felts Photography has a studio on the square?

Our two room space (located at 102 Palo Pinto St., Suite C) has a camera room and a gallery. Even though we prefer on-location sessions, we use our studio on a regular basis for newborns, head shots, commercial photography and for those who just like the classic studio portrait.  Our portrait gallery is one thing that sets us apart from many other photographers in the area.  I love having a comfortable space with all of our albums samples and wall art visible for prospective wedding clients to view.  I'm surprised that many people are not aware of our studio, so I thought it would be good to let everyone know.  We are there by appointment only, so give us a shout if you would like to come by.  Call 817-613-1439.
