From Yahoo News:

By ANGELA K. BROWN, Associated Press Writer

COOL, Texas – Casey James isn't just an "American Idol" heartthrob. The guitar-playing crooner is also the King of Cool.

Cool, Texas, that is. The tiny ranching and farming community where James grew up is rallying around the musician who is one of the last four contestants left in this season's show.

A marquee outside the Cool Community Center reads "Am. Idol Casey James!" At his former high school in nearby Millsap, a banner proclaiming "MHS (hearts) Casey James" hangs over the main entrance, where the doors are covered with dozens of signs: "Vote Casey — He's the Best" and "Casey James Rocks!"

A Millsap High teacher has made a shrine to James in her classroom, featuring a candle, his senior yearbook and a poster covered with his photos. Last week, about 200 people watched "American Idol" on big-screen televisions at the school, which has about 265 students.

"It's a really big thing at school and all over town because Millsap has never had anyone famous," said Jerra Lewis, who taught James in her theater class before he graduated in 2000.

James has been a fan favorite since his Denver audition for the Fox show's ninth season, when some of the judges asked the 27-year-old to remove his shirt and take down his ponytail — revealing wavy, dirty-blond locks.

Hollywood is a long way from Cool, a 200-resident town about 40 miles west of Fort Worth. But while playing the guitar and singing on the front porch or performing with his mother's band in local festivals, he had big dreams. Under his senior yearbook photo where he sports short, spiky hair, his plans are listed as being "a famous blues musician."

While trying to start his career, James moved to Fort Worth and played with bands of various genres — from bluegrass to heavy metal — and even performed solo for tips in coffee houses. His sang and played the guitar and mandolin on his mother Bybee D. "Debra" James' 2006 country and folk CD, "Cross That Line." His website says he formed The Casey James Band with his older brother and a drummer in 2008.

Bono Saunders, who runs the booking and management company Bono Entertainment, said he started lining up gigs for James in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas after hearing him play the acoustic guitar more than a year ago.

Saunders said he was impressed by James' range — seamlessly moving from a John Mayer song to a Merle Haggard tune — and his unique sound that he called funky and soulful with Texas roots.

"He was just hungry. I think he wanted to get out of a little town and do his thing," Saunders said. "He doesn't have any aspirations other than to play music, and it didn't matter how big or small the venue."

James brought audiences to their feet cheering after performing solo or with his band in biker bars andalternative rock clubs from Texas to Oklahoma, Saunders said. His good looks also made him a "chick magnet" but he always focused on the music, Saunders said.

"With his piercing blue eyes, he could look into an audience and draw them in," Saunders said. "I've seen that he's doing the same thing (on `American Idol'), looking into the camera and saying, `Here I am.'"

Watch Parties for Tuesday!

Three local watch parties are in in the works for Tuesday night. Be sure to make one of these events. Rockin' S Bar & Grill will host their usual party at PK lake.

Millsap High will open it's doors to the gym at 6:30 (through the south gym entrance) for their second Casey watch party. No outside food or drinks allowed. No official word as of yet, but I've heard rumors that if Casey should make it to the top 3 a hometown parade/concert will held Friday. I'm not sure of the exact times but I'll keep you posted. We want a free concert & I have a feeling that after all this is over it won't be so easy to get tickets to a Casey James concert. He's been catapulted into stardom & fans from all over want a chance to see this blues rocker. Remember to vote & I'll be sure to post some pics from the event...if he makes it through this week.

The third party will be a the the Fire Oak Grill on the Square in Weatherford where everyone is welcome to stay the entire 2 hours & vote.

Turn at the blinking lights... through Cool & to MHS stadium. Hopefully Casey will remember his way home.....

Happy Mother's Day!

What would we do without our Mom's? We sometimes forget everything they do/have done for us & take the littlest things for granted. Go see your mom today & if you can't then make a long phone call to tell her you appreciate her.

These guys are funny:

This next video is funny & reminds me of a trick my friend Brady & I used to do. I was the fat kid!

If you watched this video, you saw how the boys tied a string to the vase. When I was young, we would tie fishing line to a purse & put it in the road. We would hide in the bushes & wait for someone to stop to pick it up. Just as they would reach out to claim their treasure we would "go fishin"! It would quickly disappear into the grass until the confused motorist drove off. One man knew what we were going to do & quickly drove off with the purse. He shortly turned around to give the tissue stuffed purse back to us giggling kids. The good ole days!

2010 Seniors

Senior portrait seasons are just about to come to an end. I'm finishing up with the rush orders for wallet sizes to be sent off with their invitations. Here's one of my latest shoots from Chandor Gardens.

Oops!

In yesterdays Mineral Wells Index the caption under Casey James' photo announced his status on the hit reality show. The only problem...it was incorrect. "Cool's Casey James was voted off American Idol on Wednesday night after making it all the way into Fox reality show's top 5". The story that followed the flub was correct though. Like many of us...I guess the editors were planning on his exit from Idol & had already written the headline & story. Like I mentioned the story inside was correct but just failed to change the wording under his photo. OOPS! The index has been good about keeping us informed on the latest. We all mess up....

Don't forget to go to iTunes to download Casey's studio version of "Blue Skies". Not my favorite style of music, but much better than his live performance.

The Comeback Kid

After being in the bottom 2 for the past couple weeks, most of us thought it was the end of the line for this Blues rocker. Out of nowhere, Mike & Aaron were announced as the bottom 2. I believe I could hear an echo of screams coming from the West. Even my wife (who's not much of an Idol watcher..but votes) screamed out loud when Casey was sent to safety. After this weeks overly harsh reviews & personal attacks, it was a big surprise to see him advance & we're sure glad he did. Wonder if Kara had lamb for dinner?
Party planning is already in the works this week & I can imagine they will be even bigger than last week. I will be posting photos so check back.

Casey mentioned his prom this week on the show....After I graduated college in '97 we started our business. My alma mater MHS gave us the opportunity to photograph the Jr. Sr. proms. I remember the 2000 prom took place in the historic Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells. Really the only usable part of the hotel was in the lobby so that was the set-up that year. I remember thinking it was strange that instead of having the usual DJ play various music they had a band playing. Who was in the band? Yes.... even then Casey's fellow classmates saw the potential he had & asked him & the band (including B.C. James) to do their thing.  Did I even think to take candid shot's of the (unknown) band? Nope, do I wish I did.... Yep.

Thanks to MHS for allowing us to provide them with our services. Y'all are great

In the days prior to performance night, Casey's brother (BC) & all of "Team Casey" were hard at work creating buzz on the internet. There are so many forums & fan pages out there dedicated to Idol & Casey. Facebook has become one of the best ways of getting info out there to everyone you know. We had a blog last week of the PK watch party that BC attended & I was able to get some different angles from the event. He was posting some of my latest blog links to all the Casey FB pages to help get votes. Just to let you know about the massive following that this guy has..... in just one day of the postings I got hits from Argentina, UK, Philippines, Israel, Malaysia, Russia, Ireland, Japan, etc. How & why are these people watching American Idol. I wouldn't know how to find Israel Idol. Pretty cool!

For the locals:
Here's a video of the historic Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells, Texas. My grandmother said big stars like Marilyn Monroe once stayed in the hotel back in the day.

On a personal note:
Mom told me a story about Mamaw. In the 30's she worked a block over at the Crazy Water Hotel as a soda jerk. She was just barely a teenager then & remembered that Andy Griffith paid a visit to the famous health resort. People came from all over to drink the "crazy water" as they thought it cured illnesses. One day a police officer came into the diner & took a liking to Mamaw & another friend. To impress the girls he wrote them out driver's licenses. Wow how times have changed. No written or driving test, just "you're a pretty lady, here is a drivers license". Just thought I would share.

Top 5 Watch Party

Tuesday night Millsap High opened it's doors to host a big Casey James watch party. The enormous banner that hangs over the main entrance shows just how proud they are of the schools most famous alum.

When we walked into the school I immediately noticed that every wall was covered with photos & Casey slogans. We helped out by setting up a table to sell the shirts made by Casey's cousin Sara. Sara also agreed to donate $5 for every shirt sold to the sophomore class fund.

TV crews didn't make it out to the party as originally thought. I bet the guys over at 'ZERO Vitamin Water' were more disappointed in that fact. They drove out from Dallas to hand out their product. I imagine they were hoping to get a little mention on the news...so I will.
Thanks y'all for coming to Sap City!

MHS principal Darla Henry welcomes Casey's brother Billy (B.C.) to their campus.

The cafeteria was full of Casey fans with their eyes glued to the huge projection screen.

'

Once the watch partiers realized brother was there some asked for photos.

And then for autographs....

Getting ready to post this weeks numbers to call/text

This was cool......Casey has fans of all ages. Doris McKienzie Childress graduated from Millsap in 1942 & was the valedictorian of her class. Doris & her daughter both drove in from Ft.Worth/Dallas to attend the watch party. She told me that Doris knows good music when she hears it & that Casey stood out to her from the beginning. B.C. introduced himself to the dedicated fans & thanked them for driving so far out just to show their support.

It got kinda nuts when he was getting the star treatment himself by the eager teens.

If brother is getting this, you can only imagine the hard time Casey will have just trying to go get bread at the store. Hope he's prepared...

The party went really good despite the judges negative remarks about Casey's performance. We can just hope the fans voted their fingers off. I'm sure it was hard for B.C. to hear such harsh critiques from the judges, but he put his game face on & kept signing & posing for photos with the excited fans. That is something they will never forget.

Millsap To Host Watch Party

Up-date
Casey's brother will be attending the watch party as well as Fox 4 News!

Millsap High will host a huge watch party Tuesday night for Casey James. It's now down to the top 5 contestants this week & local Casey supporters don't want a repeat close call again. There will be no outside food or drinks allowed inside but there will be plenty for sale. The doors will open at 6:00 & the large projector screens will be ready for the 7:00 showtime.

Also don't forget to bring $15 to purchase a Casey shirt. The best part is that for every shirt sold, Sara (Casey's cousin) will donate $5 to next years Jr. class for their prom fund. Not only will you get an original family sold souvenir but you'll also be helping to raise money too.

This weeks theme is Sinatra which could be good for him. I've read some blogs that say no instruments will be allowed for this weeks performances. This is not certain but would be interesting to see Casey without a guitar & could be just what he needs to shake things up.

Fox News has been good about covering everything Casey so there's a chance they may be out to tape some footage at the watch party Tuesday night. So even if you aren't from Millsap & live close, please come on out because you just might get your 15 seconds of fame! Even if the TV crews aren't there, we will post photos from the event on the blog for everyone to see. This could be the biggest pep-rally the school has seen as we all come together to show our support for Millsap's Idol.

For those of you who have been following our Idol blog posts, I found a few other links you may like:

The Band Perry

Every Tuesday I check out what's new on iTunes & then I see what free music they are offering. Most of the time it's an unknown artist but, free is always good. This week's free download was country trio 'The Band Perry'. The single 'If I Die Young' is a great tune with an even greater message.

Here is a link to their official site.

I'm not finding a video for the single, but here's a radio performance of the song.

The Rock

For those of you who grew up in Parker County, you have seen the huge rock that sits close to Hwy 180. This rock is basically a huge canvas for anyone to paint welcome home, birthday wishes etc. The biggest news around these parts lately is how Parker County boy Casey James is making his mark in Hollywood on American Idol. A couple of local Casey supporters decided that it was time paint the rock for Casey. Lots of thought & days of planning went into this task. Patti & Trish were on a mission & started late Thursday night by first painting the background red. Then Friday evening finished up by painting the detailed guitar & letters "Casey James Rocks" I caught wind of the "graffiti hoodlums" hard at work, so I stopped by to snap a few of them in action. It's cool the support our surrounding towns are showing for this small town guy.

The bad news was that by 10:00 last night someone had already covered Pattie & Trish's creation with a birthday greeting. A birthday wish for someone on May 22nd. May 22nd! Really, they couldn't have left the rock alone for at least another week! The girls are already planning to redo it sometime soon. Good luck.

Another Remake

A huge trend in Hollywood is remaking old classic blockbuster movies to give them todays special effects. The latest horror re-make is from the Nighmare series & from what I hear it's a good one too. This type of movie isn't for everyone but those of us who grew up watching Freddy may like to see what new twist they have been put on this classic film. I plan on seeing this remake sometime this week hopefully w/ my cousin who is a horror fan too. My wife isn't as excited about the horror movie experience.

Here's the trailer....if you dare to watch
